Accessibility is our Responsibility – New Feature to the Blog

Happy new year, loves! With this new year, I have some new ideas to implement on this blog 🙂

A couple of months ago I was invited to the Premier Digital Awards. I had been nominated and shortlisted for Tweeter of the Year! While, I did not win, it was a total honour to be considered and invited to the black-tie event in London. I thoroughly enjoyed the night, mixing and mingling with people who create digital content like me. There were YouTubers, bloggers and web managers for different Christian organisations. I now have a cute little blue button on the right-hand side of my blog. I am very proud of it.

One thing that particularly stood out for me that evening was one award that was presented: Accessibility Award. I had never consider or given thought to how my blog would be received by someone with partial sight or how my videos would be experienced by someone with hearing loss.

So this year, we want to make a commitment to deliberately thinking about how to make this blog more accessible to everyone who wants to read (and hopefully enjoy) it. One way we want to do this is by adding the audio version of each blog post and descriptions of pictures/videos. While this will require more time and effort for us, we hope this will be beneficial for everyone. You can find the audio player at the top of each page!

My day at a deaf youth event – VIDEO

You can find inspiration in anything, especially when you do not expect to find it. My mum invited me along to a deaf youth event she was asked to speak at. I went along, not really knowing what to expect. I left that evening with inspiration and a whole new perspective on a side of life I didn’t really know a lot about. What better way to explain my day, than in video form. Enjoy!

I really did not know anything about being deaf, sign language and everything of that sort. It feels good to have my eyes opened.

In many parts of the world, deaf people are somewhat segregated, hidden away in small colonies. People do not expect them to have a life, do not expect them to be funny, beautiful, inspiring people. This saddens me because of course they are.

You can find inspiration in anything. Even in people you have never really known about. Even in people who cannot hear.
